Because they keep pushing out group after group. I agree that the Good Old Party ain't so Good anymore, and most of the Old part is drying up. In the end, there will be no Party left. My question is, how do we unite disenfranchised Republicans under a single banner? Are there even any core issues that "conservatives" can agree upon anymore? Small Government (not that anyone knows what that means anymore)? Conservative fiscal policy (not that anyone has the balls to execute it)? Lower taxes (which happens on occasions, but not to any great effect)? Individual liberty (which is slowly eroded by every D and R in Washington, no matter what)? Personal responsibility (sadly, those days are over)? It seems to me, and many other unhappy non-democrats that real conservatives no longer exist within the GOP leadership, and those who remain are nothing more than power-hungry liberal wolves in republican clothing.
This begs another question... what are the core values holds the Democratic Party together?
Update:
Tam has another take on the GOP. Also worth thinking about. Perhaps the GOP hasn't gotten "smaller", but rather it is simply confused.
Update 2:
Whoops. My lovely wife reminded me that GOP is "Grand" Old Party, not "Good". Not that it changes much really. |
