In case the recent reduction in grouper limits, and the more compact seasons for certain species don't have you wondering what in the hell the feds are doing, they are now proposing eliminating all Red Snapper harvesting in the Atlantic. The legal Red Snapper harvest season in the Gulf is already so short that many people don't bother with them anymore.
Last time I went fishing, we couldn't get our goddamn bait down to the bottom to catch groupers because there were too fucking many American Red Snappers. Big fuckers, too. All of the off-shore saltwater fishing shows are reporting precisely the same things. It seems to me that when you can't even catch your target species because these tasty nuisance fish follow your boat around like lost aquatic puppies, maybe there are enough of them that recreational harvest won't drive the species into extinction.
Just sayin'.
But I guess there are tax-payer funded scientists sitting somewhere in Washington who clearly have decided that all this hard evidence is a "shallow illusion". I know they are sitting in D.C. making these rules, because they certainly aren't out on fishing boats or they'd realize what big douchepickles they are. |
